Connections, reconnecting and unplugging

This past week has been an intentional choice to unplug and reconnect with myself, my friends , my health and wellness and my creative soul. I don't know about the rest of you but, once in a while, I get so caught up with life, yes even as a life coach, that I forget the balance. This time around I needed some not so subtle reminders that things were tipping more to the "no self-care" side of me and I finally acknowledged that maybe, just maybe, the time had come to walk away and unplug for a few days.

Am I ever glad I did. The women that I was re-connecting with were from my days as a new mama in a new neighbourhood and I was feeling pretty lonely. They reached out, they offered support, we shared wisdoms, laughter and tears. I needed them and they needed me and I loved them for their companionship. They were always just a phone call away and at that time the thought was very comforting. I've moved from the street they all still live on but I've not moved out of their lives thankfully. So we women who are still mamas but now we're menopause mamas connected, we laughed, we reminisced, we shared new stories and new memories, we swam and, when it was time to just sit and do nothing, we watched movies.

Each of us had a favourite but we all had one that was unofficially the most favourite: Pirate Radio. The soundtrack on this movie is just so much fun and the whole idea of the story, based on factual events in Britain in the 1960s, is quite unbelievable now.

There were a few characters in the film that I really liked but my favourite was the captain of the ship. His ideas, his choices and his empathy for his crew were quite inspiring to witness.

I'm not going to share much about the movie however if you like music from the 1960s this is a must see movie. Carlisle and Carlisle gives it a two thumbs up!

Movies and Culture, A Life Coaching Perspective

In all my years of movie watching, and I've had a few, one of the most inspirational for me has to be Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner. Why? Well, as a life coach, it speaks of having a vision, no matter how absolutely ridiculous it may seem, holding onto it, no matter what anybody else thinks, and seeing it through to fulfillment.

Remember when Ray is being continually questioned by most people he knew when he was losing money and still working on the baseball field? Remember the part when he starts to question whether or not he's doing the right thing? At a certain point he just comes to the realization that he has no choice but to go ahead with this dream. "If you build it they will come." Now there's a phrase that everybody knows because of this movie!

That's what life coaching is all about: holding onto the vision no matter what!

Field of Dreams, I give it a two thumbs up from a life coaching perspective.
